Arrived in London yesterday afternoon...having carted our 6 heavy bags on both Paris and London metro's as well as Eurostar. Very sore shoulders! But great to be back here. Is all familiar to us... and quite nice to be speaking English again. Our apartment is just north of the Soho area in the centre of the West End, just near the BT Tower off Totenham Court Road for those who know London. Fair to say that it's a bit of a come down from our Paris accommodation...but we were buying on price and location so we were kind of prepared for that. Even so, it doesn't quite meet the description on the web!
For our last day in Paris we were very Parisian. Spent a good part of the day at the Jardins de Luxembourg, which are just fantastic for all the family. The kids hired some old fashioned wooden toy yachts which they sailed in the massive round pond in the centre of the park (very cool), then we lunched on one of the two small strips of grass where you can actually sit (see the sign above), which is very rare in Paris. We walked home down the Seine. It was probably the best weather day of our week in Paris (which had been a bit mixed) so was a great way to end our time in France.
We arrived in London on Matt's birthday which was of course sad but also kind of nice given that he had spent so much of his adult life here in London (about 9 years we think). We went to the Savoy to show the kids where he worked, but couldn't go in as its closed for renovations, and then ate at one his favourite haunts, the Haagen Dazs icecream restaurant in Leicester Square, before waddling home through Soho.
